Description:
Built in 1350, during the reign of Edward III, the Castle has retained its architectural integrity and is regarded as one of the few medieval fortified Castle Hotels in England. Architecturally the Castle can not fail to intrigue; the main staircase houses what are considered to be the finest remaining examples of 14th century Garderobes in Europe, while the spiral newal staircase evokes the ambiance of the medieval age. An open fireplace adds to the charm of a magnificent Drawing Room, dominated by superb stained glass windows set into the seven foot thick walls of the castle. Guest can relax and soak up the atmosphere and perhaps enjoy a drink from the adjoining oak panelled cocktail bar. Fine wines complement the traditional, yet innovative cuisine offered in the Josephine Restaurant. Local produce with seasonal fish and game are specialities. AA "3 Star".

On the A686, 8 miles from Hexham.
