Historic Inns

A room in an inn is generally less expensive than staying in a country house hotel. McFarland Limited offers rooms in a selection of historic inns which include -

  • The Castle Inn - Set on the edge of the tiny market place of the timeless village of Castle Combe, this famous inn can trace it's origins back to the 12th century.
  • The Red Lion - Built in the 13th century, reputedly to house the draughtsmen working on Salisbury Cathedral.
  • The Royal Oak Inn - This thatched roof inn, set in the picturesque village of Winsford on the edge of the Exmoor National Park, dates from the 12th century.
  • The Royalist Hotel - The oldest building in Stow-on-the-Wold and features in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest inn in England, dating from AD 947.
  • The Snooty Fox - Originally a 16th century coaching inn, the mellow Cotswold stone facade of The Snooty Fox dominates the historic market place of "Royal" Tetbury.
